Take 10 Minutes To Improve Your Work/Life Balance: You’ll Be Happy You Did!

Your current work/life balance is probably not as great as it could be. The good news is that you can improve that balance with a few simple steps.

One thing to remember is that it’s impossible to change your whole life overnight. So don’t beat yourself up if things don’t become 100% right away. It’s a process. It is going to involve planning and it will probably involve making a mistake or two along the way. That’s okay. This is the way all great things are achieved.

Taking just 10 minutes out of your day to start scheduling a work/life balance plan can go a long way.

Tips to Creating a Work/Life Balance

In just ten minutes, there are several things you can achieve:

Accept That Perfection Is Impossible

Unless you’re drawing a perfect circle (and who can do that, really?), perfection is subjective, and unattainable. Keep this in mind when you set goals for yourself. Be sure to make the goals attainable, and remember that you don’t have to hit every goal every time. Goal-setting is just a way to motivate and track your performance, so as long as you are moving forward and improving, you’re going in the right direction.

Make Weekly Calendars Work For You

A weekly calendar will allow you to establish and keep track of your priorities, and can provide much needed feelings of accomplishment when we get to cross things off your to-do list. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a hard cover pen and paper calendar, or an app on your smartphone – pick something that matches your lifestyle. Most importantly, a calendar can be used to schedule things besides work. Whether it’s date night with your partner or television binge watching, if it’s important you should put it in your calendar. Neglecting to do this can result in time that would otherwise be “free” being taken up by work.

Be In The Moment

This tip brings the last two tips together. One of the most typical symptoms of a poor work/life balance is experiencing high stress levels. Having too many things to do in too little time is often a major cause of this stress. One way to beat this stress is to simplify your tasks. When you set attainable goals, and you schedule your tasks out in advance, you are able to concentrate on one problem at a time. By completely dedicating yourself to one problem, you’re able to solve it better, and faster, and that leaves you with more time to do the things you love.
